According to a Fox News article the President of Iran, Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, said at a meeting of Muslim leaders that the solution to
the crisis in the Middle East is the destruction of Israel. This
implies that if Israel no longer existed, the Middle East would
magically turn into a stable region. Views like this are not
uncommon. One
frequently hears Muslim leaders put blame and Israel when speaking of the
instability of regions in the Middle East. The fact of the matter
is, however, that if Israel disappeared from the Middle East tomorrow,
violence in the Middle East would still be flourishing. If one
hasn't noticed, Shia and Sunni Muslim groups throughout the Middle
East, are
at constant conflict with one another. Furthermore, Islamic
extremism that plagues the region will always lead to violence because
the ideology calls for conversion by the sword and consists of other
fascist
elements. The Middle East will continue to be a region of
instability, and continue to be an embarrassment to the world, until
moderate Muslims take back their religion, not if Israel was no
more.
Also, if Israel no longer existed Ahmadinejad would still be irrational.
