Why "The Path to 9/11" is Making the Left Nervous

One should find it amusing how left-wing blog sites like democraticundergound.com are already on the defensive about ABC's "The Path to 9/11," which will be on this Sunday and Monday at 8ET.  Since it was the Democratic Party that ran the executive branch during the first WTC bombing, the bombings of the embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the bombing on the USS Cole, in other words the 'path' leading up to 9/11, they should be nervous about this "docudrama."  They should be worried that it will serve as a reminder of how matters of national security were handled by the Democratic Party, especially in a time leading up to the mid-term elections.  That being said, even if it paints the Democractic Party in a negative fashion, one should still be skepical of anything considered a "docudrama."

MSM Will Fail to Report the Truth About Plame

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/31/AR2006083101460.html

Now that the majority of the truth is known surrounding the Valarie Plame controversy, watch the MSM stop covering the issue because the conclusion doesn't not portray high level members of the administration in a negative fashion.  The truth does the opposite.  It shows that an individual trying to claim the administration misled the public into war was the real manipulator.

Of course, even the the MSM spent huge amounts of time reporting that the release of Plame's identity was cause by high level officials trying to get revenge on Joe Wilson, it will surely fail to offer as much attention to the fact that their implications were wrong.  By the MSM choosing not to report on this conclusion to the degree in which it covered the lyes of Joe Wilson, it will unfortunately cause the American public to keep on believing the latter.

I know I'm using the MSM to give background to the truth surrounding the issue, but the larger point is the degree to which the MSM decides to cover one issue versus another.

ACLU's Lack of Standing

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060817/ap_on_go_pr_wh/warrantless_surveillance

Today U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor (a Jimmy Carter appointee) ruled in favor of the ACLU that the NSA's program designed to intercept international phone calls between individuals in the United State and suspected al Qaida or terrorist operatives is illegal and unconstitutional.  I have yet to read her ruling, but one issue that already strikes me as odd is the lack of standing that exists in this case.  In order to bring a case before an American court of law, the plaintiff must prove that damage has been done to him or her.  Not in this case though.  In this case the plaintiffs just believed their overseas calls could be possible targets for the program, but possessed no proof that their calls were being monitored.   A gut feeling that one's calls are or could be listened to can hardly be considered proof of that action.

Wake Up CAIR!

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060810/dcth069.html?.v=37

Today CAIR opined on President Bush's use of the term 'Islamic Fascist.'  CAIR stated that "the use of ill-defined hot button terms such as 'Islamic fascists,' 'militant jihadism,' 'Islamic radicalism,' or 'totalitarian Islamic empire,' harms our nation's image and interests worldwide, particularly in the Islamic world.  It feeds the perception the the war on terror is actually a war on Islam..."  What's more harmful to our nation is 'Islamic fascists,' 'militant jihadism,' 'Islamic radicalism,' and those that believe in a totalitarian Islamic empire.  And make no mistake about it, the war on terror is a war on a dangerous faction of Islam, though be it a minority within the religion.

Should the President Lower Gas Prices?

I just saw one of those pop up ads that presents a poll question.  This one's question was whether the President should lower gas prices, yes or no.  I hope American citizens understand that the President has a little or no power over gas prices.  The President can encourage domestic policies that can increase refining capacity or increase exploration for oil reserves in places such as Alaska or off of our coast, but even this will do little to decrease the overall global price of oil.  Global is the key word here.  Oil is truly a global market, where what happens on the other side of the world can effect the prices of gas here at home.  That's why American citizens should be bothered when Congress has hearings in which they grill executives of the major oil companies, and accuse them of wrong doing.  When this happens they find out time and time again that the major oil companies are not engaging in any type of price gouging, or manipulating the supply to be low and thus drive up prices.  In fact, if the oil companies had it their way they would increase supply, and increase exploration.  Unfortunately, because of the legislation created by Congress, they can't.

Cognitively Haddicapped American Jews

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/opinion/baroneblog/archives/060804/republicans_mor.htm

I still can't understand why American Jews vote overwhelmingly for the Democratic Party.  By looking at a recent LA Times poll, Michael Barone does a nice job interpreting how party affiliation affects how one views the current crisis between Israel and Hezbollah.  Not surprisingly, if one identifies him or herself as Republican, it increases one's likeliness to support Israel.  American Jewish support for the Democratic Party is even more puzzling if one subscribes to the theory that the survival of Judaism is dependant on the survival of Israel.

If Israel Was No More

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,206823,00.html

According to a Fox News article the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said at a meeting of Muslim leaders that the solution to the crisis in the Middle East is the destruction of Israel.  This implies that if Israel no longer existed, the Middle East would magically turn into a stable region.  Views like this are not uncommon.  One frequently hears Muslim leaders put blame and Israel when speaking of the instability of regions in the Middle East.  The fact of the matter is, however, that if Israel disappeared from the Middle East tomorrow, violence in the Middle East would still be flourishing.  If one hasn't noticed, Shia and Sunni Muslim groups throughout the Middle East, are at constant conflict with one another.  Furthermore, Islamic extremism that plagues the region will always lead to violence because the ideology calls for conversion by the sword and consists of other fascist elements.  The Middle East will continue to be a region of instability, and continue to be an embarrassment to the world, until moderate Muslims take back their religion, not if Israel was no more.

Also, if Israel no longer existed Ahmadinejad would still be irrational.

A Reality of Hamdam

Today's Washington Post states that "Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Wednesday the administration is pursuing legislation that would authorize the same military tribunals the Supreme Court last month called illegal."  I find this opening sentence of the article highly misleading and inaccurate.  The Supreme Court found that the military tribunals are illegal if they are not approved by Congress.  This sentence makes it sound like Attorney General Albert Gonzales is defying the Supreme Court's ruling in Hamdan, though in reality, they are pursuing the exact channel that the Court recommends for making the military tribunals constitutional.  The Court invites this as a channel when it states that "absent a more specific congressional authorization, this Court's task is...to decide whether Hamdan's military commission is so justified."   Therefore, if the specific congressional authorization was present the Supreme Court would not have jurisdiction over the issue at hand.

The UN is No Friend of Israel

Recently a story has emerged about an Israeli bomb that killed four members of UNIFIL, or the UN peacekeeping force that is stationed in Southern Lebanon.  According to the BBC's website, Kofi Annan has already assumed the worst stating that the action was "apparently deliberate targeting" the UN peacekeeping force, even though Israel has expressed "deep regret"  (It would be nice if Annan made statements this bold in regard to Hezbollah and Hamas).

This story has made me remember a news correspondent on either FOX, MSNBC, or CNN reporting from a area of Southern Lebanon.  The correspondent said she was broadcasting from this area because it was where Hezbollah had been firing a lot of rockets into Israel.  After discussing events of the day the correspondent then pointed to the background and said 'ironically a UN base is located right behind me and you can see it's flag waving in the distance.'  So not only is the UN not enforcing Resolution 1559, which calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, they are sitting in Hezbollah's backyard watching them conduct attacks on Israel.  By not acting when their own organization has a resolution that allows them to act, this force of 2,000 individuals are only helping to facilitate attacks on Israel.  So maybe it should have been or even was a deliberate attack on the UN.  The UN has made it clear whose side they are on, and it is not Isreal's.

2+2=4? Maybe Not

Recent statistics have shown that our children are competitive in math and science when compared to the children of countries such as China and India in their elementary years of schooling.  However, once our children reach their high school years their interest and success in these subjects decrease substantially, while the scores in these other counties remain high.  Part of this can be blamed on the teacher union's preference of putting their own interests before the interests of our children, but I also put a large part of the blame on an ideological shift within the foundation of America's educational system.  More specifically, there has been a shift in America's educational system from more of a absolutist way of thinking to a more relativist means of thought.   Think about math and science and one can easily see how this shift will affect our children's ability to succeed in these areas.  In math and science one has a problem in front of him or herself, and when attempting to solve that problem by a system of rules and guidelines, that individual reaches an answer that is either right or wrong.   One can understand that if one comes from a school of thought that puts more of a bias on an absolutist way of thinking, that it will ultimately make math and science easier to understand.  Unfortunately, this shift, caused by the feminization of our public schools, has caused our children to put more of a bias on a relativist school of thought.  Yes, now there are no absolute answers.  Now every answer to every question is up in the air and up for interpretation.  Now, in the American educational system, it is perfectly acceptable to question things such as who was really at fault for 9/11.  Americans? Jews? Capitalism?  Neocolonialism perhaps?   Yes, in American's educational system two plus two might equal four, however, it might not.  I will guarantee you one thing:  In China and India two plus two is still equaling four, and if the United States wants to stay competitive she better undergo another ideological shift back to normalcy.

UN Should Walk the Talk

If the U.N. wishes to save any of the minimal credibility it has left, it should implement its own security council's resolution 1559.  This November 2004 resolution acknowledges the sovereignty of the state of Lebanon against any international influences, and demands the disarmament of any Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias (Palestinians and Hezbollah).  Although, this already agreed upon resolution would have prevented the current crisis in the Middle East if it was implemented, taking it seriously now by enforcing the resolution would be a step in the right direction to help bring the crisis to an end.

One needs to remember that it would be impossible for the Lebanese military to rid its country of Hezbollah and armed Palestinians alone, that is if it wanted to.  So unless the world community wants Israel to clear Lebanon of these forces by themselves, which they ultimately will, the UN should implement the disarmament with their forces, which again is what their own resolution calls for.  Letting Israel do the UN's work for them can only heighten tension in the region.

The world community needs to realize that it is in everyone's best interest to make sure terrorist organizations are not able to hold countries hostage.  The world community also needs to realize that the only way to accomplish this is by force.  It would be pointless to have talks with organizations whose mission statements are not based on more tangible things such as obtaining human rights, or obtaining land,  but rather based on the hate and the destruction of Israel.  At Camp David, the Israli government bent over backwards to appease the Palestinians, but nothing was good enough because the appeasement did not include the end to the Israeli state.  In 2000, the government fully withdrew all forces from Lebanon, but that wasn't good enough for Hezbollah because it did withdrawing from Lebanon did not cause the destruction of the Isreali people.  No, nothing will ever be good enough for extreme terrorist groups, such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and history has proved this time and time again.

Let's Not Forget Who Joe Wilson Is

Now that the Fitzgerald investigation over the publication of the name of Valarie Plame is rapping up it is important to remember that Joe Wilson's NY Times op-ed contradicted his own report submitted to the CIA, and was full of lies.  I'm glad the Bush administration went through efforts to discredit him and his argument.  http://www.factcheck.org/article222.html   This investigation seems to have been a waste of time and tax payers' dollars.
